A field user photographs the species or habitat on a phone. GPS, timestamp, and sampling protocol are captured automatically.
Every photo is SHA-256 hashed at capture. The hash is stored in the Darwin Core multimedia record — verifiable by any third party.
Species identification is recorded with a confidence grade: ai_suggested, observer, expert_verified, or disputed. GBIF taxon keys where resolved.
A different person reviews and approves each record. No self-approval — enforced at the database constraint level.
Once approved, the record is immutable. Versioned identifications supersede, never overwrite. The audit trail is preserved.
Approved records export as a standards-compliant DwC-A ZIP with EML metadata — ready for GBIF, audit, or credit verification.

Where we actually are
No biodiversity credit has been issued on JoinEcoGrow evidence yet. We are early, and we would rather you knew that from us than found it out later. The MRV infrastructure is built, live, and verified against the production database. What is not yet present is real-world credit issuance on our evidence trail — that is the next milestone.

733 organisations across 56 countries representing $22.4T in AUM have committed to TNFD-aligned reporting. In November 2025 the ISSB decided to standard-set drawing on the TNFD framework, and in April 2026 agreed to propose an IFRS Practice Statement rather than a standard, with due process still under discussion. Most planning applications in England require a 10% net gain in biodiversity, monitored for 30 years. The NAO found "no standardised, national approach to verifying or recording the verification of biodiversity gains." JoinEcoGrow holds photos, GPS, condition notes, sampling protocol, and reviewer status together as locked, versioned records — the evidence base BNG monitoring requires. It is not a BNG metric calculator and does not produce a statutory net-gain score.

Verifiable nature-market evidence with provenance
BNG becomes mandatory for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects from 2 November 2026 under Schedule 15 of the Environment Act 2021. BSI Flex 702 v1.0 (October 2024) was released for adoption in March 2026 with Defra support. It is the international standard for sharing biodiversity data, used by GBIF and the global biodiversity informatics community. JoinEcoGrow exports approved records as DwC-A on request.
